Having a supportive spouse is a blessing. Having a spouse who works, when you no longer can, is even more of a blessing.
In situations where you were once the main earner in the household, your spouse often goes back to work or increases the number of hours worked. Having the spouse work helps financially. It also can mean having access to medical insurance through your spouse’s employer.
However, there also can be expenses associated with having a spouse return to work. For example, if you have children that require childcare or you need to have someone present with you due to your disability, the added benefit of having your spouse working may be quickly diluted by caregiving costs.
