Allsup Supports Mental Health Programs in Seven Area Counties

Joins National Alliance on Mental Illness to raise funds and awareness during Mental Health Month

Belleville, Ill.—May 24, 2016—Allsup, a nationwide provider of  Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and veterans disability appeals representation , will provide on-site eligibility screenings during the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) St. Louis NAMIWalk, Saturday, May 28 at Forest Park.

The annual event supports local programs and initiatives to improve the lives of persons impacted by mental illness. NAMI St. Louis provides educational support and advocacy programs in seven Missouri counties, including St. Louis City, St. Louis, Lincoln, St. Charles, Franklin, Warren and Jefferson.

According to NAMI, a mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. Just as diabetes is a disorder of the pancreas, mental illnesses are medical conditions that often result in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life.

That diminished capacity may make it impossible for a person to continue working. While most individuals who have experienced or live with mental illness are able to work full-time, SSDI is an important resource for those who can’t work for 12 months or more.

SSDI benefits include a regular monthly income, Medicare eligibility and re-employment assistance. The first step in the SSDI application process is to determine eligibility.

Allsup team members will answer questions and help individuals determine if they may be eligible for SSDI benefits or veterans disability appeals during the St. Louis NAMIWalk.

Help also is available online at or by calling (888) 841-2126.
