Allsup Provides Social Security Disability Insurance Screenings at St. Louis Lupus Education Conference Sept. 26
Missouri ranks 14th among states with the most backlogged pending SSDI claims; Illinois is 15th
Belleville, Ill.—Sept. 18, 2015—Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, will provide information and eligibility screenings at the Lupus Foundation of America Heartland Chapter’s Lupus Education Conference at St. Louis Community College, Sept. 26.
Nationwide, almost 1.5 million people experience significant tissue damage, organ failure, disability and death due to lupus, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. About 50,000 people in Missouri, eastern Kansas and southern Illinois suffer from lupus.
Individuals with lupus often have co-morbid conditions, such as kidney disease, seizures,
mental anxiety and depression, fluctuating cognition (also known as “lupus fog”), fibromyalgia and immune system disorders such as inflammatory arthritis. These conditions often make it impossible to continue working.
SSDI is an important resource for former workers with lupus, providing a monthly income, dependent benefits and access to Medicare. However, more than two-thirds of initial SSDI applications are denied. Appeals can take several months or years.
With 25,904 pending claims, Missouri is ranked 14th among the states with the highest number of backlogged SSDI claims in 2015. Illinois is right behind, ranked 15th with 25,052 pending claims. See Allsup's state-by-state disability backlog ranking here.
Having expert SSDI representation can help individuals with lupus be approved sooner at the initial and appeal levels. For more information on SSDI eligibility, call the Allsup Disability Evaluation Center at (888) 841-2126.
