Disability Personal Story

Have Long-Term Disability (LTD) Benefits?

Your private long-term disability insurance company (LTD carrier) may refer you to Allsup. They may do so because LTD benefits are income replacement. These benefits are intended to replace a portion of your lost income during periods of total or partial disability. If you receive benefits from other sources (such as Social Security disability), most policies are written so that your LTD carrier may reduce the benefits payable under the policy, so the income you receive does not exceed your scheduled benefit under the policy. Receiving assistance from Allsup also can help protect your LTD income.
Why? Many LTD insurance company policies require that you seek SSDI if it's likely you also will meet the Social Security Administration's (SSA) definition of disabled. Following the terms of your policy and applying for SSDI is one important way you can protect your LTD income.

Allsup Helps

How does all this work?  Your LTD carrier asks Allsup to evaluate if you are likely to qualify for SSDI benefits, too. If we believe you may qualify, and depending on the arrangements made by your LTD carrier, Allsup will represent you through the Application and/or Appeal processes.
From this point on we work for you, making every effort to get you the SSDI benefits you deserve. We have a 97 percent success rate for those who are eligible and complete the SSDI process with us, and people who use Allsup usually get their SSDI award faster.
Depending on your insurance carrier, our service may be provided at no cost to you or for a fee, which is set by the SSA and often is tax deductible. In some cases, your LTD carrier (or employer) pays our representation fee as long as you continue to receive LTD benefits. If your insurance company has not discussed SSDI representation with you, ask your claims analyst if the company will assist you in retaining Allsup and paying your fee.
Allsup also is there to guide you through the LTD "offset" process to help you protect your LTD income after you receive your SSDI award. Traditionally, Allsup customers authorize us to assist them in returning monies owed back to the insurance carrier, reducing the risk that their LTD benefit will be disrupted and their monthly income reduced.
