Allsup Commends Social Workers’ Advocacy for People with Disabilities

Belleville, Ill.—March 16, 2018—Social workers promote equity and inclusion for people with severe disabilities by helping them access benefits and services, according to Allsup, a nationwide Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation company. Former workers adapting to lost income due to severe disability often look to social workers for guidance on issues ranging from disability benefits to mental health counseling and health insurance.

“Social workers want to know about resources that will positively impact a person’s life,” said Dawn Sachteleben, Allsup Healthcare Professionals Account Manager. “When their clients are former workers who are eligible for SSDI benefits, they are dealing with multiple issues, including adapting to the reality of not being able to continue working. They have lost their job and face enormous financial pressures at the same time they are dealing with the physical and mental challenges of their health conditions.

“Connecting people with the expert help Allsup provides at the start of the SSDI application process removes a major stressor and improves their likelihood of being approved for disability benefits.”

Most people who apply for SSDI are denied and must appeal. More than 1 million people are currently stuck in the disability backlog waiting for a hearing before an administrative law judge.
