Allsup Recognizes National Disability Professionals Week On June 20-24, 2016

Thousands of disability professionals, including disability claim examiners, ensure processing for more than 2 million applicants to the Social Security Disability Insurance program each year

Belleville, Illinois — June 17, 2016 — People who experience life-disrupting disabilities count on a large, supportive network of disability professionals when managing their medical and financial needs, according to Allsup, which has helped tens of thousands of individuals to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

As a leader in SSDI representation, Allsup joins groups nationwide in observing National Disability Professionals Week from June 20-24, 2016.

“Disability professionals are a lifeline for people who are often very vulnerable,” said Mike Stein, assistant vice president of Claims at Allsup, whose hundreds of employees assist people with severe disabilities through the SSDI application and appeal process.

It’s a massive undertaking—as nearly 2.5 million people apply for SSDI benefits each year. About 10.8 million former workers, spouses and children receive Social Security disability benefits. The Social Security Administration, which oversees the SSDI program, employs more than 65,000 people nationwide. In 2015, more than 16,000 people worked at state-level Disability Determinations Services (DDS) offices providing services and support.

The National Association of Disability Examiners is the leading organization serving those workers, including those who process and decide disability claims. Members of NADE have celebrated National Disability Professionals Week for more than 15 years.

“It is important for those who assist individuals with disabilities to take a moment to pause and be honored for their hard work,” Stein said. “Their tireless efforts make a tremendous difference.”

NADE members also will have a chance to reflect on their work and refresh their skills during the group’s national training conference Aug. 14-17, 2016, in Denver.

National Disability Professionals Week offers an important opportunity to appreciate the value of the SSDI program for more than 151 million workers who are currently insured for SSDI benefits.
