Community Newspaper Examines Social Security Disability Backlog in the Bronx

Allsup’s Mary Dale Walters says new rules don’t benefit former workers who apply for disability benefits

More than 1 million people, most of them former workers, are stuck in the Social Security Disability backlog, waiting 600 to 700 days for a hearing. New York is one of the most backlogged states, with more than 69,500 people waiting for a hearing.

The Norwood News, based in the Bronx, recently profiled two former workers who are feeling the negative impact of the backlog and highlighted wait times in their area.

Mary Dale Walters, Allsup senior vice president of Strategic Communications, spoke to reporter David Cruz to provide insight and explain how Allsup helps individuals navigate the application process.
