What happens during a government shutdown?
*Important update: Congress approved a resolution and the 3-day government shutdown ended on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.
Belleville, Illinois — Jan. 19, 2018 — The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a contingency plan that, if accepted by the administration, indicates more than 90 percent of the staff processing disability claims will remain in place, serving customers with SSDI applications and appeals. According to its plan, the Office of Hearings Operations will continue to schedule hearings, hold hearings and write decisions.
In addition, the SSA has traditionally and in its plan said it will continue to process payments, so SSDI benefits will be processed despite the government shutdown. At Allsup, we will continue to maintain regular business hours. Our teams and representatives will continue to complete and submit SSDI claims, request medical records, submit information to the SSA and handle other tasks on our customer’s behalf.
