More treatment options are needed for individuals living with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) because existing therapies don’t always work, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
A new program will help experts around the world develop new treatments and medicines by making cell data on the diseases available to the scientific community.
Lupus, RA and other autoimmune diseases can last a lifetime, cause severe disability and reduce quality of life. Sometimes referred to as “invisible disabilities,” symptoms such as chronic pain, extreme fatigue, and cognitive impairment can make it impossible for individuals to continue working. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is an important resource for former workers living with these autoimmune disorders.
